Quvium's Story
Our story starts with co-founders Karen and Steve, both of whom had terrible experiences of coping with children that had asthma. Their children experienced asthma attacks that ended with hospital visits and anxious waits while treatment kicked in. These experiences were very worrisome and stressful.
They both thought there must be something they could do and both were scientists with an instinct for problem solving. The problem they wanted to solve was this – could they find a warning signal for an impending asthma attack that would give them enough time to take action to help prevent the attack from actually taking place?
What they come up with is astounding...
A cough.
A cough is a reflex action in response to something in the airways – mucus or an irritant. Sometimes you don’t notice it and as you feel fine, it passes you by. However, a cough is the first proven sign of an impending asthma attack or flare up and can happen many hours beforehand.
With this cough monitor idea, Quvium was born.
